  • Ever wondered what it looks like at the most northerly point of Australia? I guess not!!!
Here it is! Simply referred to as 'The Tip', it is found at the very top of remote Cape York Peninsular. The aboriginal name is Pajinka. It wouldn't be nice to fall into the water as the sea runs very quickly. The two islands to the north are York Island and Eborac Island. To access this remote spot you have to climb/walk over the high volcanic rock or if you are lucky and it is low tide you can find access by Frangipani Beach and walk past the stilted mangroves.

  • 'Mara Healing' a sculpture by local artist, Siv Grava on a cliff overlooking Waterloo Bay at Elliston, South Australia. According to the artist, Mara is a mythical goddess who has come to the cliffs to help heal sorrows of the past. In early settlement a number of aboriginals were sent to their deaths over cliffs near this spot.
For me personally, I don't feel the artist has captured Mara's sense of healing, she doesn't appear 'motherly' to me, in fact she seems aloof.

  • I loved Geelong especially the bollards created by artist Jan Mitchell. There are 100 of them depicting something reminicent of Geelong, most of which are found along the waterfront. I think they make Geelong very unique and give the town a character not found anywhere else.
This one is Carrie Moore, born in Geelong and became a musical comedy star, performing in Melbourne & London.

  • Had to hike up this small mount on the way to The Tip. This termite mound, overlooking Frangipani Beach, is probably the most northerly termite mound in Australia. Now that's an important piece of trivial information!

So named because Captain James Cook landed there in 1770 and raised the British flag. In 2001, the Kaurareg people successfully claimed native title rights over the island.

  • Roonga Point is mainly a rocky headland. There is very little evidence of the old stone jetty and sawmill that used to be there. Roko Island where there used to be an old pearling farm is in the background. I thought this rock looked remarkably like a seal.
