The Vleeshal (Meat market)is an elegant building on the Grote Markt (Market Square). It was built in 1603 in a lavish dutch renaissance style by the city architect, Lieven de Keij. Now it houses a museum. It was built because vendors weren't permitted to sell meat in the streets anymore.
